German Popstars
Around a quarter of our collection of signed items are by German pop stars of the Fifties and Sixties. But the ”crown“ of this section dates from 1980: All artists who were part of a gala for the ”Deutsche Krebshilfe“ (Cancer Help) signed a large photo – among them Mildred Scheel, the chair woman of the Krebshilfe and wife of former German president Walter Scheel. She died in 1985.
In addition you will find autographs form Caterina Valente, Peter Kraus, Bill Ramsey, Evelyn Künnecke, Lolita, Bully Buhlan und Angele Durand.
The charity concert has been released on this long player
About 400 signed pictures showing German stars are part of our collection; here we present six of them
The biggest hit of Gitta Lind was ”Weißer Holunder“; together with Christa Williams she recorded songs like ”Ich will immer bei dir sein“ und ”Ohne dich“. Christa Williams sang for Switzerland ”Irgendwo her“ at the European Song Contest in 1959 reaching the 4th place. Bibi Johns from Sweden had a contract and some records for RCA Victor in the United States before moving to Germany. Here she became a movie star (”An jedem Finger zehn“, ”Liebe, Jazz und Übermut“) and had many hits like ”Zwei Herzen im Mai“ und ”Junggesellen musst du eine Falle stellen“.
Three big names in German pop business in the Fifties and early Sixties: Fred Bertelmann (”Der lachende Vagabund“), Gerhard Wendland (”Tanze mit mir in den Morgen“) und Peter Alexander (”Badewannen-Tango“). Alexander has been successful until the Eighties (”Die kleine Kneipe“) and was host of many shows for the German TV station ”ZDF“.
Image right: Gitte Haenning, Siw Malmkwist and Wencke Myhre presented a brillant show in Siegen on 4th of March 2006 – and they signed some items for our museum.
Image left: In the 1970s Gitte changed her image: less popsongs more ballads and jazz showed her real capacities

When you hear the winning song of the German Song Contest 1963
you cannot but think of Gitte.
With these two songs Siw Malmquist was the winner of the German pop festivals in 1964 and 1968.
Wencke Myhre ”Beiß nicht gleich in jeden Apfel“ (le.) and ”Das ist meine Welt“
