GDR
It was Peter Maffay, a popular (West)German rocker, who put our attention to the music scene in the former GDR. His interpretation of the song "Über sieben Brücken", originally sung by the East german band "Karat" took our interest. So, already in the midst 1980s, we could deal with bands as "Electra", "Stern Combo Meißen" or "Lift". You couldn't find many records of these groups on car boot sales in the West - but as the interest in the music from GDR was not very intensive at that time, we were able to carry together a small but fine collection of "Amiga"-records ("Amiga" = GDR record lable). Short after the Wall had fallen we got in contact to Ekkehard Tanzer, a journalist from Erfurt. As an expert in rock and pop music, he taught us in many talks and discussion to get a feeling for GDR music and bands. From him we heard names as Gerd and Thomas Natschinski, Bärbel Wachholz, Theo Schumann, Horst Krüger, Renft and many more. In the meantime our collection concerning GDR rock music and -history got larger: there are not only around 500 LPs, singles and 78's, but books, booklets, signed postcards and rare posters, signed as well (e.g. Electra, Karussell, Stern Meißen, Eva Maria Pieckert, Hauff & Henkler, Thomas Lüück).
The "Puhdys" were part of our exhibition "One more dance" on the festival "Kultur Pur" in Hilchenbach/Northrhine-Westfalia in 2003. There they signed a copy of the book "Lebenszeit", written by Monika Fehlberg (1982, VEB Lied der Zeit)
