Former Jethro Tull Drummer Clive Bunker visited Siegen-based Rock-Museum

mit_Mary_und_Thommy_lightSiegen-based Rock-Museum welcomed a famous visitor two days after Christmas: Clive Bunker, founding member of Jethro Tull, visited rock music collectors Maria and Wolfgang Thomas. He played drums on the first four LPs of the band and left the band in 1971 for private reasons.

Reason for the trip was the book, which Wolfgang and his son Kevin are currently working on. “Jethro Tull Over Germany” deals with the relationship of Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson to Germany and will be published (in German language only) on April 2nd 2012 with Maria Thomas’ publishing house ‘Siegener Rock-Museum’. It is her second project including „Schickt einen Fahrer mit langen Haaren - Rolling Stones Over Germany“ (“Send A Driver With Long Hair – Rolling Stones Over Germany“, published in German language only). This book was published in 1998 with Wolfgang Thomas being one of the two authors.

mit_Bravo_Tull1_lightThe drummer’s visit was arranged by Ulla Hilger, a long-term friend of the musician. Bunker, who played on legendary Jethro Tull tracks such as “Bourée“, “Living In The Past“ and “Locomotive Breath“, spent Christmas in Gebhardshain, native town of Ulla Hilger who now works as a teacher in Worms. She has close links to Jethro Tull and many associated artists, for example Fairport Convention. She organized Jethro Tull Fan Conventions in Altenkirchen (1994) und Betzdorf (1997).

Wolfgang and Kevin Thomas dedicated a whole chapter (“On the Trail of The Beatles”) of their book to Clive Bunker. In this chapter he talks about his first concerts in Germany, which he did with former Jethro Tull guitar player Mick Abrahams’ band called Toggery Five.

Maria and Wolfgang Thomas have one of the most extensive collections of rock and pop memorabilia in the house they also reside in. They were responsible for 24 exhibitions all over Germany (e.g. in Bremen, Wetzlar, Neuwied, Lüdenscheid, Werdau as well as Siegen and Freudenberg), in which they presented parts of their collection.
