Spotlight in Autumn ′06 - Star-Club Hamburg – 04/13/1962 to 10/12/1986
”The old-fashioned music has gone“ – that was the motto, when on April 13th, 1962 the ”Star-Club“ in Hamburg opened the doors. Up to December 31st, 1969, when Hardin & York had the very last concert, nearly all big names in rock ′n′ roll and beat music entered the stage at ”Große Freiheit“: The Rattles and The Lords, The Searchers and The Swinging Blue Jeans, Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher with Taste and, of course, The Beatles. During the time followed the possibly most famous Beat-Club in the world (besides Cavern Club Liverpool) changed into a low-class club. The building wasn′t in use for a long time and at least burnt down in the 1980s. Before the ruins were pulled down, there was a big party on Oktober 12th, 1986, nearly twenty years ago. Among others, Lee Curtis appeared on stage and ”Star-Club“-photographer Guenter Zint described the whole event in his book ”Große Freiheit 39“.
This sportlight (autumn 2006) shows a very small part of our ”Star-Club“-collection, e.g. LPs, autographs, books and hundreds of original documents (receipts, vouchers for flights to Liverpool, London or Hamburg, the correspondence with banks or the local administration and receipts for their fee, signed by the musicians themselves).
Gene Vincent, Bill Haley, Fats Domino, Screaming Lord Sutch, Ray Charles, die Beatles, Fats and his Cats,
Little Richard – sie alle und noch viele Bands und Künstler mehr gastierten an der Großen Freiheit
