No anniversary, no remake of the album but a new item for our collection titles our first Spotlight in 2007:

Since last Christmas we are able to show the jeans Wolfgang Niedecken, head of the Cologne based band ”BAP“, wore for his ”Leopardefell-Tour in 1995 and signed it lately. The trousers was sold by auction for the benefit of the German Down Syndrom Information Centre. We were lucky to be the winners (... and the Information Centre as well). Niedecken named his album, that came out in March 1995, ”Leopardefell“ due to the song ”Leopardefellhoot“, his version of Dylans ”Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat“.

The Leopardefell Band: Wolfgang Niedecken, Jens Streifling, Carl Carlton, Ken Taylor, Bertram Engel und Axel Büchel. After the Leopardefell-tour multi-instrumentalist Streifling became a member of BAP; in 2003 he changed for another Colonge band ”Die Höhner”.

Guitarist Carl Carlton worked with Udo Lindenberg or Peter Maffay, played with Joe Cocker, Mink DeVille or Robert Palmer as well.
Bass player Ken Taylor is part of the Peter Maffay Band, appeared on stage with Alphaville, Xavier Naidoo, Rio Reiser, Sabrina Setlur, Smokie or Supermax (to mention just some of his partners).
Drummer for the Leopardefell Band was Bertram Engel, best known for productions and tours with Udo Lindenberg, Peter Maffay, Bruce Springsteen, Robert Palmer and many more.
On the keyboards: Alex ”Effendi“ Büchel. He was, besides Niedecken, the only BAP-member (since 1979, left in 1999) for the Leopardefell-recordings and the following tour.

On the 9th of June 1995 Niedecken visited our home town Siegen with his Leopardefell Band. Both photos above (left: Niedecken and Ken Taylor) date from this concert in the Siegerlandhalle. They were taken by Horst Schaumann, a press photographer from Herdorf, a town near the city of Siegen. Ticket, foto pass and the tour poster, signed by Wolfgang Niedecken, are the souvenirs from this tour.

This postcard was distributed by EMI Electrola for the release of the album. It shows president Mobuto of Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Kongo) and Mao Tse-Tung of China. Mobuto rules his country from 1965 to 1997 and was known for his habit to wear on important occasions a hat made of the skin of a leopard (Leopardefell).
