Even in 1961 the SU sent Juri Gagarin as the first man into orbit – America followed on Februar 10, 1962 with John Glenn In his space ship he encircled the earth three times. For this reason the 17″ longplayer ”America′s First Man in Orbit“ was issued. The German magazine ”Die Bunte“ made a big story about this unique event. Two other American astronauts were in space before Glenn: In 1961 Alan Shepard and Virgil Grissom, both on ballistic trajectory suborbital flights. In 1965 Virgil Grissom was commander of ”Gemini 3“ with John Young aboard, in 1967 hed died in the flames onboard ”Apollo 1“.
