Spotlight in Summer ′08 - 40 Years ”Burg Herzberg Festival“ & Golden Oldies
::: Wettenberg – a small village travels through time :::

The hessian community of Wettenberg (Germany) travels through time: From July 25th to 27th the trip goes back into the years of the economic boom in Germany (Wirtschaftswunder).
It is the 19th festival in the shade of Burg Gleiberg that shows for three days the complete lifestyle of the 1950ies and -60ies themed ”Family, Progress & Souvenirs“. More than 70.000 visitors are expected to listen to the music of about 50 bands on nine stages or looking starry-eyed at the polished chrome of about 1000 oldtimers. Our rock-museum delivers a small insight into our collection at the Golden Oldies.

The festival succeeded to gain cult status and belongs to the TOP oldtimer events in Germany. The activities started 18 years ago presenting eight bands on four stages with about 3000 visitors - the specialized press now call the event ”Germany′s Finest Oldie Festival“. People arrive by bus, train or by car from all over Germany and even from the neighbouring countries to be part of ”Golden Oldies“ getting information as well as entertainment in cultural history.
On Saturday (26th of July) the costume agency ”Wundertüte“ arranges a special competition: The participants present themselves in the outfit of the 1950ies or -60ties, pushing a baby carriage. And the ”German Petticoat Competition“ invites all visitors to meet up in an outfit of the 1950ies to 1970ies.
A matter of particular interest for all car enthusiasts is the show of around 1000 classic cars on Sunday, 27th of July. Private car owners and more than 50 oldtimer clubs are invited to present their automobiles. The motto: ”Family, progress and souvenirs“. The reunion with my first car: Chris Howland aka Heinrich Pumpernickel promised to visit the festival to have a meeting with his first car he drove in the 1950ies: a DKW 306, fitted with two doors.

As mentioned above: Our Rock-Museum is part of the Golden Oldies as well, showing some rare collector′s items. And of course we will take the opportunity to welcome Chris Howland in a special way – for example with the original poster of the film ”Unsere tollen Tanten in der Südsee“ (1963) starring Chris Howland, Udo Jürgens and Gus Backus or with the absolutely rare issue of the SPIEGEL magazine from 1952 with Chris Howland (”Mr. Pumpernickel“) on the cover picture and a special story about the entertainer inside.
